iPhone 3G 3.0 OS Tethering on Ubuntu Linux 9.04 via Bluetooth

I have struggeled some with this shit until i came over a script called uit.sh:

http://us.cooperlees.com/download.php?F=uit.sh.gz

Download it, and do this to setup deps and config:
gunzip uit.sh.gz && chmod +x uit.sh && sudo ./uit.sh -i

After that just connect to your iphone tethering with:
sudo ./uit.sh -c

Disconnect:
sudo ./uit.sh -d

I had some problems getting connection refused, this was because i had turned of 3g to save battery.
So keep that 3g ON if you want tethering!
You may also place the script in PATH to have it globally available, just remember to run the script as root/sudo.

You may also get this to work with some fancy GUI SHIT like blueman, but i like terminal more.

Encoding iPod touch/iPhone/PSP video from CLI

These goddamn video players a.k.a. ipod/iphone/psp wont play .avi straight from the box.
They need to be converted to some stupid mp4 format to get played.
Now usually ppl use some stupid windows/mac GUI tool to do all of this, and then letting their computer grind these jobs.
We have a solution for your server/linuxbox/whatever:

Lets say you have a directory of .avi files you want to convert to .mp4 format, we use ffmpeg and a for loop to do this:
To setup ffmpeg you gotta solve that yourself. Here is a tip if you use ubuntu:
http://juliensimon.blogspot.com/2008/12/howto-compiling-ffmpeg-x264-mp3-xvid.html

iPod Touch/iPhone:for i in *.avi;do ffmpeg -i $i input -acodec aac -ab 128kb -vcodec mpeg4 -b 1200kb -mbd 2 -flags +4mv+trell -aic 2 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -s 320x180 -title X $i.mp4;done

PSP:for i in *.avi;do ffmpeg -i $i -b 300 -s 320x240 -vcodec xvid -ab 32 -ar 24000 -acodec aac $i.mp4;done

Apple iPhone = iSuck?

A friend of mine who decided AGAINST buying an iphone – he went with a HTC touch pro instead – pasted this link to me today followed by saying something like “HAHA isuck”.

As the majority of dingleberry’s admins currently have the iphone 3g, I’d say that most of whats in this article doesnt apply to us – we live in Norway, or we simply disagree. However, the iphone’s reception is not very good. I have to lean out a window in my girlfriends flat in order to have a “normal” conversation…. A quick peak in the apple forums says the most..

This thread is a continuation of
